Experience as a Trainer

As a trainer and educator, Dr. Burnes is passionate about designing, implementing, and evaluating training modules and classes that incorporate new information into learners’ existing belief systems. Theo is dedicated to infusing education courses, continuing education programs, and in-service training with a mission of social justice and advocacy for those who have traditionally not been heard or served in various fields of mental health.

As a trainer, Dr. Burnes has worked extensively with groups of numerous sizes. He infuses active learning, discussion, and activities into trainings to ensure that attendees are able to build upon their strengths and talents. He has trained extensively for corporations, universities, medical facilities, and county mental health organizations.

As a clinical supervisor, Theo believes that his clients, supervisees, and he are partners in a journey to explore: environments of equality and safety; their authentic selves; the development of specific competencies. Theo infuses a feminist-developmental theoretical framework to ensure that supervisees feel supported in learning the skills that they need to advance in their respective career paths and work environments. Theo has won awards from the American Psychological Association's Division 17 for his excellence in clinical supervision.
